To provide the Installation Medical Authority entomological support in their Pest Surveillance Program with emphasis on tick identification and screening for the etiologic agents of Lyme Disease (Borrelia burgdorferi) and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (Rickettsia rickettsii). 4. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. Further technical assistance may be obtained as detailed in Enclosure (Encl) 2. 5. FINDINGS. A total of 32 Ixodes dammini specimens (10 females; 3 males; 19 nymphs) submitted between 27 March and 13 November 1989 were tested for the presence of B. burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme Disease Encl 1. Of the 32 I. dammini assayed, none were positive. Specimens submitted also contained 3 female Dermacentor variabilis which were not tested for B. burgdorferi or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever due to their condition. 6.
